Volunteers Service “Weltwaerts” - Bridge Builder Program (BBP)
Volunteers Service “Weltwaerts” - Bridge Builder Program (BBP) is supported by the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of the German Government (BMZ) and under this program young people from Germany visit developing countries to gain international exposure through their volunteer work.
Being a partner of BMZ through Karl Kübel Stiftung für Kind und Familie (KKS), Germany, JKS became a part of Weltwarts program since 2010. The main purpose of the program is to :
- Increase knowledge among young Germans about poverty and development work
- Create public awareness in Germany about culture in India
- Increase the global intercultural understanding
- Develop intercultural skills
- Share knowledge and skills and benefit to the NGO work
- Change of Perspectives: Walk in the shoes of somebody else
- Learn about the Indian culture
Under the first batch of BBP, Ms. Sarah Bernhard and & Ms. Saadet Keskinkilic visited and stayed with the organization from September 2010 to April 2011. The second batch of BBP volunteers – Ms. Ms. Annik Schepp and Ms.Lena Maria Assmann were with the organization from September 2011 to April 2012. In the third batch, Ms. Stefanie Kunas and Ms. MarieStettner visited the organization from September 2012 to April 2013. During their stay they taught English, different soft skills, games, extra-curricular activities etc to the children at the Bride school and schools in the target area, supported the vision centres and old age home through their services. They also extended their helping hand for the preparation of case studies, visited target villages and interacted with the community, women SHGs and prepared a short movie on the life of the tribal families. BBP was a mutual learning experience for both the volunteers and the organization.
